چکیده

In this paper we have used a Neural Networks approach for the estimation of the Round Trip Time (RTT) in the TCP protocol. We constructed a network operation scenario that approaches the Internet operation. By observing the traffic between different nodes we collected the RTT values during normal network operation. Then we organized these values in such a way so that part of them was used as a training set of the Neural Network (NN) and the rest for the evaluation of the performance of the training of the NN. The next step was the combination of the ns2 source code with the NN source code in order to replace the Jacobson’s algorithm with the NN approach in the procedure of the RTT estimation. We operated again the previous simulated network with three different scenarios, alternating between the NN and Jacobson’s algorithms. The results show that the Neural Network approach provides a better match than Jacobson’s algorithm.

TCP behavior in networks with dynamic propagation delay

This paper provides a preliminary investigation into the impact a link with changing propagation delay has on the performance of TCP file transfers. We investigate over a dozen different variable delay patterns, based on spacecraft movement. We highlight the performance impact of such variability, paying close attention to TCP’s retransmission timer, which is based on the observed round-trip ti...

Role of STDP in regulation of neural timing networks in human: a simulation study

Many physiological events require an accurate timing signal, usually generated by neural networks called central pattern generators (CPGs). On the other hand, properties of neurons and neural networks (e.g. time constants of neurons and weights of network connections) alter with time, resulting in gradual changes in timing of such networks. Recently, a synaptic weight adjustment mechanism has b...

Computing the Retransmission Timeout in CoAP

The most prominent IT trend nowadays is connection of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with Internet service infrastructure. Interconnection of the millions of sensor and processing devices will create a tremendous traffic increase that can lead to congestion. In parallel to the development of new protocols for WSNs, e.g., Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) there is plenty of research for n...

On the Scheduling Properties of the TCP Retransmission Timer

We argue that the design principles of the TCP timeout algorithm are based solely on RTT estimations and may lead to flow synchronization, unnecessary retransmission effort and unfair resource allocation. We present a new Window-Based timeout algorithm (WB-RTO) for TCP, which exhibits two major properties: (i) it cancels retransmission synchronization, which dominates when resource demand excee...
